From Notes to Action Worksheet

By the end of this page you will have the first page of your 2027 plan: one priority for the next 90 days, one owner, one first step and a date on your calendar, plus a home for everything else. Fill it in before the workshop on Thursday, November 5 if you can. If not, come anyway and we will fill it in together. Have your conference notes next to you.

Step 1: Capture

Skim your notes, think back over your year, and write down the three things that made you think, “We need to do that.” One line each. A session, a vendor, a peer, or something that broke in your business this year all count.

Too many notes to sort? Talk through them with voice-to-text or paste them into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, then give it this prompt:

These are my notes from NARPM National. I run a property management company with [] properties and [] people. My biggest problem right now is [__]. Sort every idea into three groups: solves my biggest problem, good idea for later, not for me. Then give me my top three, ranked, with one sentence on why.

Step 2: Filter

Score each takeaway yes or no. A takeaway that earns a yes on question 1 and a real name on question 3 is a contender.

1. Does it fix a problem I have today?

3. Who would own it? (a name, not “the team”)

Before you sign with a vendor: you can name the problem in one sentence, the process it supports is written down, and a named person will own the rollout. Missing one? Fix that first.

Step 3: Map

Sort what made it through the filter into now, later and the parking lot. Only one idea gets to be “now.”

Now turn your “now” idea into a SMART goal:

Specific: what exactly will you do?Measurable: how will you know it is done?Achievable: is it realistic with the people and time you have?Relevant: does it solve a problem you have today?Time-bound: by what date?Owner: who owns it?

Step 4: Move

An idea gets done when you know the right first step, your team knows why it matters, it has clear milestones every two to four weeks, and someone checks every week whether it is on track or off track.

Your next seven days:

Put your first step on your calendar, today
Tell your team the one thing, and why, at your next team meeting
Hand the owner their piece, with a date
Close the notebook. You are ready for 2027.
